Thanks to Bob Ewing and Jeanne Koenig, Salty Paws 37VT66, we have this drone's eye view of the ten tugs at last weekend's LNVT Rendezvous in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

What a sight with 10 LNVTs at the Brewer's Marina in Plymouth, Massachusetts this past weekend. There were 39 people in attendance. John William 37VT68, owned by John and Sue Mackie, arrived from Merritt Island Florida. We had three new owners in attendance as well as one previous owner. A special thanks to hosts, Heidi and Ken Maitland (Victorious 26) for putting together such a fabulous event!

A Very Big Thank You!

A very big Thank You to you and the Lord Nelson Victory Tug owners for hosting a visit here at Telegraph Harbour Marina. The beautiful classic vessels were the talk of the crowd and we were so proud to have our docks adorned with the mighty tugs.

Thank you for coordinating the event and for the privilege of having you stay with us.

Refurbished fuel tanks ~ Jack Robert

Jack Robert 37VT17 just installed their refurbished fuel tanks. Owner, Lee Anderson's had a few  lessons learned to share:  Don't expect to meet a schedule unless you know suppliers, parts, work and the weather have agreed to it. The actual work was easy, but the wait time inbetween things has been terrible. The biggest problem was getting the old fiberglass coating off. It took several experiments but had to burned off in the end. Once that was off the rest of the refurbishing went quickly. Cost was about half of what new tanks would have cost. We have to finish up with the details now and we expect this to be "putsy" as well. Shooting for first week of August for splash.

Keeping Zinc's Attached

Some zincs corrode quickly along the channels used by their fasteners.  Taken to the extreme, the zinc can fall off the boat.  To keep this from happening Ken Smith, Polar Mist 49VT07, covers the weak areas with fingernail polish.

Fleet arrives in Sidney, BC

The LNVT fleet arrived in Sidney, BC today.  It has been a great cruise out and the weather has been just perfect.  Today Sounder 49VT05 joined the fleet, which makes eight tugs so far.  Tommy Chen, builder of the tugs and designer of the LNVT 41, joined us for the afternoon.  We were also joined by Bruce Griffiths, owner of Tess II 37VT22, who arrived from the Yukon, Canada.  Tomorrow the fleet will continue exploring the Canadian waters, heading to Galiano Island, BC.

Hiaqua 37VT03 Cruising Update

Hiaqua has been cruising the west coast of Princess Royal Island, Northern BC, in and out of inlets and coves in search of the illusive Spirit Bear (White Grizzly Bear), without much luck. After talking with others, seeing a Spirit Bear is like winning the lottery. We have seen many beautiful places but no bears of any kind….not even any deer. However, there have been an abundance of eagles, so we have been entertaining ourselves by baiting eagles with rockfish carcasses resulting in some amazing eagle shots. More fun than fishing!
Leaving the native village of Klemtu, we headed off up beautiful Alexander Inlet for the night. After transiting Meyers Narrows we forged on up Laredo Inlet staying at places like: Quigley Creek Cove, Alston Cove and Bay of Plenty. Kent and Emily Carr Inlets were also spectacular with waterfalls, little islets and coves to explore. Many of these anchorages have had tight entries with tidal dependent depth and inaccurate charting which makes for interesting cruising. We have seen very few boaters, having almost all anchorages all to ourselves. After Princess Royal Isl, we moved further westward into Evestevan Sound along the west side of Campania Isl (the Outside Passage) where we have been hunkered down in McMinking Inlet for the last four days dealing with some gale force winds passing through.

2016 Cruise Out Begins!

The Northwest Cruise Out has begun! Currently the group is in Langley, Washington on Whitbey Island. There are seven tugs along the municipal dock and more are expected to join up as the week of cruising progresses. Today the Tugger gang is going to the home of Sally and Bob Windecker, Sounder 49VT05, for a BBQ.

New Sailing Dink

Polar Mist 49VT07 just got a classic sailing dinghy.  They were kind enough to let Dave Howell try it out.  She is a beauty and we suspect she'll be getting a lot of use in the Pacific Northwest.

Tug Spotting ~ Lucy

Lucy 49VT03 was spotted by John Mackie, John William 37VT68, while in for fuel.  Lucy's captain is taking boat to Maine for the owners. 

Tug Spotting - Sounder

Sounder 49VT05 was recently spotted at the Maritime shipyard in La Conner, Washington.  She is close to being splashed after getting a fresh coat of paint.  Looking fabulous!
