Tug Spotting

From Heidi Maitland, Victorious 37VT26

I'm on the bow in the Great Bridge Lock in VA (our preferred route is through the Dismal Swamp but it is closed due to many trees down after Hurricane Matthew). We went through the lock on Wednesday.  Now we're headed for Belhaven NC.
[A boater ahead of us, from New Zealand, took this pictture!]

Tug Spotting ~ Victorious

From Heidi Maitland, Victorious 37VT26

We're hiding from some big winds just off the Potomac River in St. Inigoes MD at a friend's [Bob Allnutt, Victory 37VT02] dock. Very protected.

Thistle 37VT47's Latest Upgrades

From Ed & Mary Ann McChain
Thistle has new cushions. They are 2 layer of foam, 3"of very dense & 3 of soft making 6" thick. Note the 6" filler back, this lays down to make up a 6" bunk.
Also having some problem with the transom facing the southwest sun causing paint fading should be solved with this removable cover.

LNVT Recipes

In 2008 the East Coast Rendezvous attendees received a cookbook, "Galley Favorites" which was put together by Jeanne Niccolls (Prior Owner of Knock Off 37VT66).   Macy Galbreath, Lady 37VT08, recently updated this fun cookbook and it is now available on the LNVT Google Drive for everyone to use.

Tug Spotting - Salty Paws 37VT66

Excerpt from Dave and Bobbie Forsman, owners of Liberty a of a 40' Pilgrim.

http://pilgrim-trawlers.wikidot.com/hull-43

"Bob and Jeanne recently purchased the LNVT 37 Knock Off, now named Salty Paws.  They are keeping the boat in the marina next door to the yacht club and stopped over to tour Liberty and chat about boats.  We traded them some wine, cheese and crackers for some crumb cake from Mueller's Bakery.  We figure if we talk to enough LNVT people we might generate enough votes for them let us into their organization."

[Over the years Dave and Bobbie have come to know several LNVT owners and their tugs.  In 2015 they even attended the East Coast LNVT Rendezvous to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones.  We think have definitely earned an honorary LNVT membership.]

NYC

From Heidi and Ken Maitland
Victorious 37VT26

We went through the East River this morning headed south and one picture is of the United Nations building with the Empire State Building in back and the other shot is of lower Manhattan off of our stern. We had the current with us and went 11 or 12 knots most of the way!

From Dave Forsman aboard Liberty, a 41' Pilgrim underway to her winter quarters in SW Florida.

Bob Ewing and Jeanne Koenig recently purchased the LNVT 37 Knock Off, now named Salty Paws.  They are keeping the boat in the marina next door to the yacht club in Bay Head, NJ and stopped over to tour Liberty and chat about boats.  We traded them some wine, cheese and crackers for some crumb cake from Mueller's Bakery.  We figure if we talk to enough LNVT people we might generate enough votes for them let us into their organization.

The green boat is Bob and Jeanne's LNVT Salty Paws in it's winter home (covered slip).  We came across it when we were snaking our way through the marina to the pump out station.

Hurricane Matthew--Ready?

The following is from John Mackie, John William 37VT68, Oct 6 2016, 4pm.

Storms moving in with heavy rain right now.

Beefed up the dock, buried 2 20 lb anchors in yard. Put out 40 lb Danforth 200 feet off bow and 20 lb one off the stern plus a bow line to neighbors oak tree. House is secured and hopefully ready. Biggest worry is water levels being higher than normal and the surge. Hopefully we are high enough but water is rising with wind. It came up 6" in last hour. Will keep you posted if we have cell service.

[Update 7 October 2016 at 0900]

Storm has passed but winds still up in 60's. no power, house is fine but lost our small oak out front.
Boat is doing fine with no visible damage so far. Had to adjust a couple of lines when wind switched but everything held great. Small danforth is carrying the load as the wind is blowing out the canal now taking the water with it. No storm surge to report but I am sure lots of erosion on the beach.

Another Difference--Dutch Door Lock

The Dutch doors on Jack Robert 37VT17 don't have the mortised in top-and-bottom locking mechanism.  This may be unique to Jack Robert.  Further investigation is required.
