Thistle's Anchor Strike Plate

Ed McChain, Thistle 37VT47, is installing a bigger anchor strike plate to accommodate a 35lb CQR.  The new strike plate will also incorporate a bill-bracket to lock the anchor inplace.

Original strike plate and hawse fitting removed.  Temporary white plate keeps water out.

Close-up.

So far Ed's discovered several things:

1. The hawse fitting unbolted and came off easily.  Removing it from the wire-reinforced hose, which connects it to the deck plate, was not easy and required a sawzall.

2.  The strike plate was firmly bedded to the hull making it very difficult to remove.

3.  The gel coat under the plate is red--perhaps the tug's original color.
